Good News / Bad News

November 21, 2004

Well, it’s been one of those weekends. Action-packed really. I mean, I usually come into work on Monday and answer the inevitable “What’d you do this weekend?” with “Eh, not much.” Boy will I have a lot to say this time.

Let’s start with Friday night. Poker night with a bunch of work buddies over at The Canon’s place. Well, guess who finally came out on top? I’ve put in my dues and lost a good chunk of change to all my friends in poker. Now, it was my turn to reap the rewards of diligent play. But really, I just kept getting awesome cards all night long (in poker speak, I flopped the nuts) and walked away with a much fuller wallet.

So, that was great and all. Great start to a great weekend right? Wrong. Fast forward to Saturday night. Heading home from Ryan’s place after some dinner and halo when BAM! got rear-ended. This being a forceful enough impact to send me careening into the car in front of me. Then it seemed the guy that hit me didn’t notice that he hit me, because for some reason he decided to gun it and speed off as if nothing had happened. Luckily, I don’t shock easily and this didn’t surprise me one iota. So, I proceeded to tear ass after him and got his license plate number and make/model. That son-of-a-bitch will pay. Even if I have to go all Falling Down on him. Anywho, I pulled over and checked on the gal that I got rammed into and we pulled into the nearest parking lot to call the cops and insurance companies and what-not and where-to-for. Long night of waiting around. Neck still hurts.

Here’s a pic of some of the damage. It’s very graphic, so those with weak stomachs may want to turn away:
Miata go bang

So that was Saturday.

But Sunday was destined lifted my spirits since I took my first stab at smoking a whole turkey in the ol’ Charbroil Silver Smoker. We decided to have a friendly little pre-Thanksgiving celebration. So, I got up at 4:30am to get started (you ain’t gonna ever hear someone say “fast-smoked”). Long story short, it turned out GREAT. Best damn turkey I ever done ate if I do say so myself. Moist and juicy. Succulent. Fantabulous and such.

Here’s a picture of it in the smoker. It’s about 3/4 done here:

And here it is at the end of the night:

The Carcass

So, at least I ended the weekend on an up-note. . . except for the impromptu poker game after dinner. But I only lost 5 bucks so who’s complaining. I’ve still got my health right? Right?

Damn my neck hurts.

 1. That all pretty much sucks except for the poker story and the turkey story. Did you hit Jim’s Mom?

 2.
Did you hit Jim’s Mom?
Yeah, but that was later. It was the only thing I could do to cheer myself up. I hit it all night long.
